Joey Hye Jee Kim

If I were a fictional character, I'd want to be Joey.

If you don't know which Joey I'm talking about, I pity you, and advise you to go to Buzzfeed's front page. There's usually enough 90's nostalgia on there to put your 25 year old cousin to SHAME. I'm talking about Joey from FRIENDS.

Joey wasn't the brightest of the bright, he was unemployed for much of his early twenties, and still hadn't had a real long-term relationship by the time he hit his mid-30's and his friends were all married or about to be (considering Ross's track record with marriage). So why would I want to put myself through that terrible existence? Well, it's because I absolutely love the idea of being a pathetic, formerly unemployed, unmarriable (it's a word now), dumb guy?

Jkjkjk. Joey is actually who I think is the happiest of the friends. He's confident (and rightfully so), sweet, hilarious, wasn't too scared to pursue his dream job of acting, basically everything that I'm not. He acted with the stars of Days of Our Lives, Gary Oldham, was Al Pacino's butt double for a day, and was a lead in a T.V. show costarring a robot. If that's not a dream life, I don't know what is.

Unbreaking Hye Jee Kim

At this very moment, somewhere in the universe...

someone unbreaks a plate. How can this be? Surely, I mean someone breaks a plate. The laws of this world make it impossible to unbreak a plate.

But what if I told you there was a planet, much like ours, in which time flows backwards. Well, backwards to us. I suppose to them our time goes backwards. Perspective can be a tricky thing. But I digress. In this planet, everything is completely identical. There is an identical copy of Hye Jee, Mr. Logsdon, Barack Obama, Selena Gomez, and even you living their lives comfortably. Their lives are (predictably) identical to ours, save for the fact that their living it in the opposite order. Our lives begin in a delivery room. To them, that's where their lives end. We reach our prime fairly early in our lives. They reach their prime fairly late. Get it? Time for them goes backwards, like a rive flowing uphill. The tricky thing is that their memories also run backwards. So what we consider to be our future is their past, and they can remember it. And what we consider to be past, they see as future, and they can't know what it holds. They see reactions before actions.

Back to that someone who unbreaks a plate. This particular young man unbroke the plate that his wife ate from on the first day of her life (basically its what she ate what we would call a last meal off of). Prior to this unbreaking, the wife and man had been locked in a heated argument. The young man knew that the fact that he was arguing with his wife meant that he will end up undoing something that we consider to be bad (ie breaking a plate). He quickly ran through all of the hints in his brain.

"Okay, so the argument started with her storming in. Then I brought up the fact that her mother is incredibly immature and irresponsible. Then she called me irresponsible. Now, we're arguing about dishware that I will presumably unbreak sometime in the future. So I assume that I will unbreak a plate at some point."

And right he was. Right after he apologized profusely, he found himself standing upright with pieces of broken glass flying to his hand and melding together. A plate now was in his hand.

"Getting Ready" - Emily Sandford

Getting ready, isn’t that simple. Think back to 2000s made for TV teen movies, where the girls “getting ready” by jumping on her bed while singing into a hair brush and that’s what this playlist is for. The overall criteria is lipsyncability and how well you can dance to it.

“Elle me Dit”- Mika – If you’re wondering why a French song is on my playlist, you’ve never been in a French class. “Elle me Dit” is like a cornerstone for American French classes, everyone knows it and everyone loves it. The beat is perfect for hair flipping and dance with a hairbrush.

“Shake It Off” – Taylor Swift – How could I not put Taylor Swift on my playlist. “Shake It Off” is perfect, it has it all, and it’s a mood picker-upper.

“I’m Gonna be (500 miles)”- The Proclaimers -  This song makes the list for one reason and one reason only, you can’t sing it without doing the accents, and that alone makes it so much fun.

“Hold My Hand” – Jess Glyne – Lipsyncability, check. Danceability check. How fun is it? So fun. This song is sweet, upbeat, and all around a great song so that’s why it makes this list.

“House of Gold” – Twenty One Pilots – This next song seems like a bit of an outlier, but how can anything labeled as Ukulele Screamo not be on my list. Besides being one of my all-time favorite songs by one of my favorite bands, it’s so much fun while still being relatable. “Oh and since we know that dreams are dead,/ And life turns plans up on their head/ I will plan to be a bum,/ So I just might become someone.” The way Tyler Joseph sings/screams these lyrics mixed with the Ukulele, and Josh Dun’s minimal drums insures its spot on my list.

Why can't I choose? - Emily Sandford

My life is made up of moments fangirling over fictional people from fictional places and the people that portray them. The ability to live in any of this worlds would be incredible, to be one of these people unbelievable.

Now comes the time to choose who to be, to reinvent myself as an entirely different person. Should I live out my childhood dream of being a Disney princess? What about a witch at Hogwarts, or a superhero saving the world?

Now comes one of my fatal flaws, not being able to decide. I’ve narrowed down my impossibly long list of favorite characters to two. Both are equally as great. They’re different but incredibly similar. It is because I can’t decide that I shall explain both of them: Chat Noir, and Peggy Carter.

Chat Noir comes from the French “kids” cartoon “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir”. Chat Noir is a European superhero. His whole “thing” is bad luck/ destruction. His personality is what really draws me to him, he is never afraid to be himself, and the puns are everywhere. I say that his personality and his superheroness and his frenchness, but we all know I’m here for the puns. I know pawful right?

Now for a complete 360 I would also like to be Agent Peggy Carter from Marvel. Headstrong, and fearless in 1940s America Ms. Carter is force to be reckoned with. She proves herself time and time again. I want to be her because she’s everything I’m not, outspoken, and not afraid to stand her ground.

Given the choice between being either of them, I’d probably stay myself and gain their qualities because it comes down to it I can’t decide.

Right now as I sit here wondering what in the world I should write this post about many, many things are currently happening in this world we live in.

People are picking sides; whether to love or to hate. The hate is spawned by fear, fear of what is different. Love is spawned by understanding that even though we are ALL different we are more alike than we seem.

The world will never be the same come November because the U.S is seriously considering an idiot for the presidency. Someone that is ruled by hate, and feeds off of it. Someone that is unpredictable in actions and words. Someone that NO ONE should ever be.

People are forced from homes, ripped from families, and the world still turns as cruel as it is. Despite all of the horrible things that occurring to them they hold hope, and most importantly love.

Yet, the world goes on with ALL of its problems occurring, and sometimes we can’t stop all of them. But they will become more manageable if the turns to love and not to hate.
