My name is Lauryn Marie McNair and I'm 16 years old. I work at Fazolis and I'm a member of our school's Young Democrats, Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), and Cultural Diversity Club. I really like Harry Potter, Alice Walker, Thomas Harris, and William Blake. My personal goals for the year is to be more grateful, buy less things, and spend more time with my family. My academic goals include obtaining a 5.0 GPA, scoring well on the ACT and SAT, and improving in my writing.
The most meaningful moment of my summer was when my family had a little get together. I grew up in a small family that consisted of just my mom, three siblings, and myself. However, over the years this has grown to include one more sister, three nephews, and a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law. Despite the growth, I see less of my family due to the start of their own independent lives. Over the summer, we had a get-together which consisted of all of the previous mentioned family members, my uncle, and a few friends. Overall, it was really nice to see everyone for more than a hour and everyone actually got along, which was rare. In addition to that, I also volunteered at St. Joseph East Hospital for a month, United Way for two weeks, and began my first job, all of which were exciting.
If I could have any superpower, I would have the power to keep pollutants from contaminating water and keeping a healthy amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. This would be beneficial to everyone, especially poor countries and people who are affected greatly by this and don't have the means to combat it. Also, I don't see this superpower becoming problematic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUC_DOhfzwQ- This is a video of a crowd protesting police brutality while chanting a line from Kendrick Lamar's song "Alright". With an increased awareness of police brutality, primarily on black citizens, a lot of my time is consumed informing myself on these injustices while mourning them. I also love protest and the song Alright, so this video sums up a little bit of my interest. https://twitter.com/ My favorite website is Twitter, on which I spend an abnormal amount of time on.
