Good vs. Evil - Daniel Kolpek
Good and evil are not as distinguishable as one may think. All humans have certain morals that are ingrained in their mind from birth. Everybody knows it is wrong to kill, steal, cheat, because they can feel it in their conscious. But past that, it differs from person to person. Everybody has their own moral code that they develop as they grow up. Some codes are extremely biased and based on their religions and ideals. Others develop their morals based on society's laws and restrictions. All these influences tell us what is right or wrong as humans. We become very conflicted when we are told to break one of the rules because that is how we are wired. But after we do break the rules once, we are more likely to do it again. This begs the question, is there really good and evil? In my opinion, there is no clear cut good and evil. Rather, a person's perception of good and evil is purely based on their experiences and ideals. The same things that formed our moral codes determine what we think is right or wrong. For example, two friends find a blank check, already signed, lying on the sidewalk outside a house. One of the friends want to write $1,000,000 in the blank and cash it in. In contrast, the other friend wants to take it home to shred. Which person is right? Do we really even know? The answer is no because truthfully, nobody is really right or wrong. We all have our own points of view on many things and it's impossible to safely say who is correct.
