Oh man technology has evolved in the last decade! Back in elementary school the coolest kid was this one person with the Motorola razor flip phone, that stuff was state of the art technology at the time, but now looks like a hunk of junk compared to an iPhone 6. Personally, technology has always been a big part of my life and has in general shaped how I have grown up. If I had to pick on moment I would pick thwe first computer I ever built myself. It was just so awesome to realize that the big box next to the screen actually has many important and diverse pieces inside that can all be manipulated to suit any need! That first build got me hooked and I have built a bunch more since then, some for myself, and more for others who paid me to do custom builds. Overall that experience caused me to find my passion for computers and now I am looking to get into computer engineering in college.
As far back as I can remember the only time technology has actually hurt me would be when I was about six years old and I snuck over to the treadmill to run on it. I went too fast and fell. The treadmill was backed up to a wall ( terrible placement imo) and caused my head to hit the wall and smash my front teeth through my lip. I had to go to the ER and get a bunch of stitches. To this day the left side of my top lip hangs a bit lower than the right does.
Oh boy 20 years ago would have been a lot different. If I had grown up in that time without pretty much all forms of contact with others except phone calls and some sweet Netscape browsing I feel like I would probably have been a bit more personable. Growing up back then I would have to have had infinitely more face to face conversations than I do now. Even though it probably would have made me better at talking to people I don't think I could go back to that time period. Netflix is just too good to lose.
I unfortunately am not to big of an optimist about the future. Will we get cool new phones and more powerful computers? yeah, probably, but I also think all that will come at the expense of the earth itself. Everyone relies too heavily on practices that require the earth tio be polluted more and more everyday. Ultimately I think it will catch up to us and when it does it wont be pretty. Hopefully not something like in that 2012 movie though. Anyway, I will probably be too caught up watching Netflix to know or care.
