Lauryn McNair Assignment #2

Growing up in the United States has offered me a privileged life. It allows me to categorize things like electricity and indoor plumbing as basic necessities and complain when the cable goes out. I'm afforded a life where my biggest problems are passing test and balancing school and work. Even if eating was an everyday struggle for me, organizations and the government (despite the protest from certain political parties), have systems set up where this fate doesn't have to be absolute.

This comparatively easy lifestyle, also grants me the opportunity to overlook one of the greatest advances in human technology. The internet. In a few simple touches of my finger, I have the ability to broadcast my thoughts and opinions to every part of the world. I can figure what's happening in Ghana and London in less than five minutes and not even blink an eye at how unbelievable that is. I have the world essentially at my fingertips and an unlimited amount of knowledge at my disposal.

I also have Netflix . If we're ignoring the massive amount of information and connectivity of all people that the Internet has provided us with, it could still be considered one of the greatest inventions, solely based on the fact that it allows me to watch Netflix. Netflix has had a major, positive influence in my life. I can start my night off watching amazing documentaries on GMOs and exploitation of girls in the media, then finish the night with Gossip Girl or the West Wing. Not only does it serve my many interest in movies, but it also provides as a nice distractor from my responsibilities. Without Netflix, which requires my computer and WiFi (all great inventions) that mandatory panic attack that plagues every student in the month of AP exams and finals (aka the month of May), would be a lot worse.
