Technology- Meriwether Carling

  • Has technology ever inconvenienced you or hurt you? Maybe technology got in your way, slowed you down or even literally hurt you? Have you seen technology have a negative impact on society?

Technology in the modern days has impacted anything and everything I do. From looking up something for school or scrolling through my social media I am around technology 24/7. Even this blog is an online blog that is required for English class.

Not only has technology impacted and shaped my everyday life, it has also hindered how I go about my days. Remember when you were a little kid and all the neighbors would play outside together with scooters and chalk and jump ropes? Yes, I'm talking real face to face human interaction in the great outdoors! Nowadays, because most 7 years olds own iPhones and xBoxes, all the children just stay inside and play on their electronic devices until their parents proceed to yell at them, saying how they spend too much time with their technology. Well, the parents aren't wrong. Technology has prevented me from doing a lot of things. Sometimes I will stay up until 2 or 3 on a school night because I will be watching Netflix instead of getting the proper amount of sleep so I'm not tired in the mornings. Also, I can't let you forget about the times during the day where I sit down to do homework and my phone sits next to me, taunting me. Finally, I give in and scroll through my Instagram feed hitting refresh multiple times hoping something will pop up to let me procrastinate even more from actually starting my homework.

I'll admit it, no matter what I say about technology, it has become a huge part of my life and would not be able to give it up even if I tried. All I'm saying is that us as a society have become so dependent on technology that everyone is missing out on the small things in life that technology shouldn't ever replace. These little gifts in life include things like eating dinner with your family and everyone talking about how their days went. Also moments like hanging out with friends and everyone talking to each other and no one being distracted by their iPhones. Its things like these that make me wish that technology was never as developed as it is today because then us humans would be able to witness life as it comes and not take it for granted.
