Good vs Evil - Rachel Roberts

On some subjects, good and evil are pretty clear cut. Like mass murders are evil and saving puppies is good. Or God is good and the Devil is bad. But there are still many grey areas that strike up argument. Like is it ok to kill someone in self defense or should you just let what was going to happen happen? And can people be totally classified as all good with no evil or all evil with no good?

I think that since we all have different moral compasses that guide our own views of good and evil. Some people are a lot harsher, the kind of people who push people around and kick dogs, and they have a more lenient view on how far you have to go to be evil. And on the other hand, some people are the type of people that don't ever say anything bad about anyone and would never intentionally hurt anyone have a far stricter view of what actually is good. But who is right? Is it really our place to classify good and evil? No its not because you don't know what made that person to be like that.

Our religion, life experiences, political affiliation, and family life dictates our spectrum of good and evil. So without being inside someone's mind, you can not tell them what good and evil is. We all have different views, making our good vs. evil spectrum differ.

Laws are set to keep evil from happening and to punish the evil and keep the good safe. But since people still commit crimes, it shows there is still a lot of grey area where people with different backgrounds have different spectrums of good and evil. No one wants to see themselves as evil, everyone thinks of themselves as the good guy.

The real war against good and evil is all in how people think, much like the never ending political battles. No one will ever win because we will all always differ in opinion, even if its slight, it still is there. The war is only in our mind and is impossible to win.

No one can be the true judge of what good and evil is, except in extreme cases. We live our every day lives in a grey area that we believe is good although those around us may not see it as that, creating the grey area. The grey area is all human creation and unless people all start thinking the same things, there will always be a grey area people fight over.
