To be frank, I’ve been given so much advice by so many people that it's difficult to isolate one specific example and one specific result, even if the specifics are general. So as i do with all things, let's consult the all powerful internet.
I was once scrolling through various social media sites (as one does when one is bored), liking all the memes and other funny stuff that people come up with when they don’t have to worry about a social filter. And as it often happens, i stumbled upon a hipster aesthetic blog filled with black and white photography of city -scapes and quotes from obscure authors in typewriter font. As this is not the sort of thing i find particularly interesting i began to leave the page when it caught my eye. One of those typewriter quotes.
I don’t remember what it said anymore, and i’ve seen so many similar variations i don’t think i could find it again if i wanted to. But it said something to the effect of ‘we’re all uncertain of what we are doing around others’. And while it didn’t seem important at the time, I’ve begun to see how correct it is. A big step in me overcoming my social anxiety has been learning to talk despite awkwardness and misspeaking. Cause everyone does that. And some people are so overwhelmed by trying to correct themselves they don’t notice everyone else's mistakes. This acceptance of mistakes is helpful and healthy, and unfortunately easier said than done.
