"You learn in high school whether you want to or not." This was not the full quote, but the meaning stuck with me. It was not intended in the idea that you learn math and physics whether you want to or not, but that you learn life skills. Nothing is worse than the ever pressing assignments which you know contain information you will never, ever use. If you wish to go into medicine, more than likely, knowing the name of the Indian who cause the battle in 184whatever is never going to help you (sorry Mr. Cain) and same as this, if you wish to go into law, knowing the the integral from 0 to 18 of r(x) gives you the area of shape z isn't going to records your mind (prior apology goes to Mrs. Dewees as well.) However, in all of this you are learning multiple things. You are learning how to learn: how to grasp and apply new information given to you; you are learning how to persist: how to keep going even when you have negative hours of sleep on no motivation; you are learning how to deal with people who may be hard to deal with: you are learning how to stay sane even when you are never able to agree with the person across from you. Every one of these things is something that will come up in every aspect of your life: college, work, social situations, maybe even marriage. This advice have me a new work ethic and a new recognition for the things I learn everyday from school. It has taught me to learn from past incidences of procrastination and to pay attention to how I handle myself in certain situations in the 7 hour school day and learn from them. Even if I chose to not learn one piece of information in my time in school, I would learn one thing; I would learn what failure is and I would learn this because "You learn in high school whether you want to or not."
