Assignment 2- Claire jicha

Personally I think all this pretentious ‘technology is bad’ is just complete BS. Technology is a way to communicate, its not this invasive, impersonal, plague a lot of anti millennial authors, artists, or critics fear it to be. Technology promotes understanding and relationships between people rather than destroying them or making them less significant. Technology doesn't hurt people, it helps more than anything. It helps people live longer, accomplish more than they could before, and get a message out to a broader audience than would’ve have been possible at any other time. I think that all those anti- millennial critics are just scared of the change that technology provides.Millennials aren't these narcissistic, id centered, sociopaths monsters they’re often made up to be because of their reliance or use of technology. People will play on their phones on the train or whenever they have time for the purpose of communication, we aren’t tweeting into a void. And if some happen to be using it to ignore someone, so what, people always have and will find ways to ignore each other and avoid unpleasant situations or people and this provides a cover. Technology hasn’t changed that. I think this is just a nostalgia based argument to promote the idea of a better american society, that never actually existed. The pre- modern technology times of America are romanticized, when in reality, it was quite the opposite. People had less freedom, less connections, slower information distribution. Frankly, I'm glad I was born now rather than earlier (though I would have preferred being born in the future with even ore advance technology).
