Forgive me for choosing a cliche image, but as someone who was not only raised by scientists but also an avid sci-fi fan, I couldn't resist. Just the fantastic marvel of what we humans can accomplish when we are motivated to do so. We went to the moon just to show we could. We could build and colonize space if we set our mind to it. Humans could collectively solve any problem we could face if motivated to do so. Unfortunately, humans are petty and argumentative and will deny awe inspiring progress for the sole purpose of spiting someone.
