I sit in between Rachael and Clare in English. Clare seems to be a very lovely person, but I know more about Rachael so I’m going to write about her.
Rachael and I have a lot of mutual friends, so I feel like I should know her, but we only started talking to each other this year. Since August, though, Rachael and I have gotten to know each other pretty well. She runs cross-country, and although she won’t admit it, she is really good at it (she’s been on varsity since sophomore year I think?). She does speech and debate team with me, and she actually helped me practice Impromptu before nationals in Gatlinburg last year. Aside from the first letter of our last names, she and I also share a profound love of Sherlock and Harry Potter. She has a Gryffindor beanie which I’m really jealous of.
I would say she is like the color yellow. She’s sophisticated and bright, and in the same way you notice a pretty color yellow when you see it, you pay attention to Rachael when she talks because she always has something interesting to say.
To be quite honest, I’ve always found Rachael intimidating, although I think that’s more a reflection on myself than her. She’s incredibly smart and creative and seems to have her life pretty well together. I remember last year I went to my friend Allie’s 16th birthday party and Rachael was there. I thought I’d gotten Allie a pretty fantastic gift until she unwrapped Rachael’s present which was this fantastically detailed, beautiful, hand-drawn book that referenced one of Allie’s favorite shows, Supernatural. Needless to say I felt totally inferior. But it gave me insight into the incredible friend Rachael is, and I realize how lucky I am to know her.
